In this situation, the person gifting the car is the seller, and the person receiving the car is the buyer. The person gifting the vehicle is responsible for signing the current title over to the recipient. On the vehicle’s title, there is a section where the sales price of the vehicle should go. In this space, the gifter of the vehicle needs to write “GIFT” in the provided area. Once the BMV receives the vehicle’s title, you can return to your local Indiana BMV and complete the remaining steps in this process.
